“Atlantic Cape Community College Security and Public Safety Department has transitioned over the past five years from a 24 hour campus security operation at two locations, to the present three that cover two counties in Southern New Jersey. I, William Keener Director of Security and Public Safety, quickly realized that some changes would need to be formulated in order to provide the level of service the campus community had become accustomed to. One area identified was in the daily logs and reporting area. After a six month search by the security management team CESI was chosen as the vendor of choice. The software was affordable with our limited budget, but gave us all the tools we needed to do our jobs more efficiently. This also allowed us to move in a greener direction by eliminating the stacks of paper that were generated each day. Officers are routinely rotated to each of the campuses and many times would find themselves unaware of past incidents/issues. With CESI Direct, Officers are able to look at past and current logs/reports. Reports are automatically emailed to security supervisors and college judicial officials in real time. This has greatly aided in incidents being handled in a timely manner before they have time to escalate. On several occasions the program has proven to be useful in identifying repeat offenders even when the incident occurred at a different campus. The programs ability to search the data base is something that could not have been accomplished under our past system. To further assist students we placed a link for online reporting on the college website, all in an attempt to make security more accessible. The programs web based functionality is useful for supervisors to access the system from any internet location when needed, even while not on duty.
The CESI team from management, training and support are eager to help make sure our needs are met. Many times fixes have been made while on the phone with support. When some issues needed to be changed with future scheduled updates, CESI does a wonderful job of keeping us informed. The training of our security staff was accomplished in two 4 hour sessions, even though some officers had limited computer knowledge, but everyone quickly got up to speed. The supervisors were then able to do additional in house training as needed. The programs point and click platform makes it extremely user friendly. "

The Report Exec is very easy for our guys to use. It’s logical; the reports follow a logical flow, and that’s something we weren’t seeing in the other programs we looked at. I’ve been able to teach our officers who do not like computers to put in a report in a logical way without them getting all confused about what to click or not to click.
Recently I was talking with a sergeant at another police department, and they don’t have anything in terms of an RMS system, just like we didn’t a while back. He came over here to find out how to get a grant, and I told him, “Well, first of all you need to have good numbers. You have to have stats.” I asked him, “What type of stats do you have?” “We don’t…” “What do you mean, you don’t?” He said, “We don’t have anything. We don’t keep anything.” So I gave him your phone number and said, “You need to get this!”
I’ve always got people asking us about our system, and I push the Report Exec with everyone I talk to. I use the software pretty extensively and love working with the different reports and numbers and stats. “My sergeant and I had looked at about every law enforcement software out there and we were pretty much at the end of our rope; the software we were looking at was either $80,000 and out of our price range and didn’t really do what we wanted it to do, or it was between $5000 and $25,000 and didn’t do what we wanted it to do. The most important thing I wanted in software was that once we put the information in, that it be accessible, and ultimately we found the search features on the Report Exec to be phenomenal.
It has led to us being able to close more cases, investigate cases better… I’ll give you two examples: We had a woman who wrote a forged check, and the clerk wrote down her date of birth. We came back and typed in that date of birth, and we’d written her a ticket two weeks earlier. We put that woman’s picture in a photo lineup, and the clerk picked it right out. Another time we had a number of cases of criminal damage to property—one night these guys had damaged a bunch of flags and yard art; just hell-raising—and we had a witness who’d seen a vehicle in the area. One of our officers said, “Hey, I wrote a ticket to a car matching that description,” and within about thirty seconds with the Report Exec we were able to find that ticket and identify the vehicle. Those are the kinds of things that for us are imperative. It’s easy to put that information in and forget about it, but can you retrieve it back out easily to aid you? That’s the key.
I’ve recommended Report Exec to other police and sheriffs departments, several of whom ended up becoming customers as well. I say to them, “Hey, what are you doing with your software?” “Well we don’t have any.” I say, “Then you need to take a look at this stuff,” and when they take a look at it, they usually end up buying it. Some of these guys have come up here to see our software and we’ve demo’d it for them and showed them how we use it, and they jumped on board. I really can’t speak highly enough about it. I’ve dealt with AS400 systems and others, and the Report Exec just does things the other systems don’t do. When I was talking with our sheriff, he was using <competitors software program>, and we were talking about how frustrated he was with it. I showed him what ours does. His doesn’t do that, and they spent $120,000 on it! So once people look at the Report Exec and compare, that’s the selling point.
We had companies come in and demo their software for us, from <competitors software program> to <competitors software program>. We looked at some heavy hitters, and a lot of those we eliminated simply because of cost. And when my sergeant and I sat down and started playing with the Report Exec demo, we were just floored. Another good example: We were looking at animal control issues in our town, and I got a call on a Monday afternoon that the city council wanted some numbers and some statistics on how many animal control calls we had. I went into the software and in a matter of fifteen to twenty minutes, I was able to print out some pie charts and graphs--calls per hour, calls per day, per shift—and print it out and make it look very professional, like I had spent hours doing it, when I’d spent only fifteen or twenty minutes.
My experience in dealing with the people at Competitive Edge has been extremely positive as well. Every time I call with a problem—a problem we’ve created usually—it gets handled, and within a short amount of time. I couldn’t be happier with your company or the software.
I’m very satisfied and again, the key for any software is that you’re able to access that information and get it out once you put it in. If you put it in and you can’t get to it, it’s useless. We’ve cut down our report search time when people request copies of reports. Where we used to have a logbook to look up to find the case number to pull the call, now we just type in a name. It’s a time-saver for us, a big time-saver. In a technology age, you’re either going to jump on board with a company and get in front of the ball or be left behind, and this software—for us—was the coup de grace. It was inexpensive and it does much more than the most expensive software programs.”

five years of my law enforcement career I was responsible
for the records and dispatch for the local police department.
I had spent lots of money there purchasing a dispatch
and record-keeping system, <competitors software product>,
which cost up into the $130,000 range for the system.
And so when I looked at the demo for the Report Exec
here, it was so similar to the product that I was used
to using, and when I saw how much more affordable it
was I decided to go ahead and go with it. We had been
doing everything pretty much on paper at Albertson,
which worked, but it wasn’t nearly as easy. The retrieval
of data was pretty much nonexistent before. Since implementing
your software 2 ½ years ago, we’ve been able to see
the trends occurring on campus here—locations of problems
that we need to address, the buildings they’re occurring
in—and it gives us the ability to pull a lot of the
data up and then address it in a proactive manner instead
of simply reacting.
We can also track our officer’s activities. Recently
I got a complaint because we couldn’t be in one place
when we were supposed to be there, and by being able
to pull up the data that the officer had put into his
daily log I was able to justify why we weren’t there,
and it was a valid justification. The powers-that-be
were happy with the answer that I gave them. So it saved
me having to deal with a lot of heartache.
We’ve been able to interface our photo data from campus
ID cards into the Report Exec, so that when you type
in a person’s name it pops up their picture, so you
know what the person looks like, or who to go after,
or who a given party is. We are also working on the
updating of our data as far as putting people’s residence
and phone numbers into the system, from parking permit
applications. So that will go in, allowing us to get
more current data, rather than just once-a-year information.
Our IT department is very helpful with these types of
things, and it’s nothing they can’t handle.
The Report Exec has saved us countless headaches, made
things easier, faster, more efficient, more effective,
and the price is right. Your product has proved to be
as good as other software packages that cost fifteen
times the money, offered by companies who provide far
less service. I have never experienced such good service
from a software company before; sometimes I wonder if
you guys ever sleep! I’m more than willing to recommend
the Report Exec to others, and in fact there are three
other campuses I know of who have become your customers
as a direct result of our being satisfied with your

“We purchased
the Report Exec software after finding it to be more
than comparable with higher priced products. Coming
from an environment where we used to do everything on
paper, your software has cut way down on the time it
takes our officers to complete reports. I’ve seen a
significant improvement; where before it used to take
about two hours to do a report, it now takes about fifteen
minutes. That’s a huge time-savings over the course
of a year with all the reports we do. And our guys can
now do their reports on the road. They’re mobile and
they don’t have to come back to the office to type up
reports and do all the old paperwork, so we’re saving
time that way too. They’re still available for calls.
The Report Exec puts data right at our officer’s fingertips
on the road, so that if we’ve ever had contact with
an individual before, our officer can pull that right
up. That’s important. It gives them crucial information,
such as if a party has a history of violence, etc… If
so, we can tag them.
It adds a little bit more time when you’re entering
in citations, but it’s so much better than having to
spend another two hours when doing a search for a specific
one. It used to take all day sometimes to do a record
search—everything was manual—and now it takes just a
couple of seconds with the software. The reporting is
just awesome. I love the reporting so much it’s ridiculous!
The support division of your company is fantastic. I
enjoy working with them. Your guys present a very positive
image of your company and have shown a great dedication
to their work. If we have a problem, they start working
on it right away while we are on the phone, and I’ve
had changes made to reports before we’ve even hung up.
When I send an email I typically get a response back
right away. We run a couple of other software too,
and it usually takes a day or two before I get a response
back from these other companies.
We have received compliments from the governing body
here on the quality of our reports and the professionalism
they see in the department. Because the software allows
us to show them all the work our officers are doing,
they’re more informed about Marshall Department operations.
We have improved our image with the District Attorney’s
Office. When I go to council meetings now, I bring along
all these very professional reports. The DA just loves
them!
I have no hesitation whatsoever about recommending your
product. It took us probably five years to get on an
RMS system here, and it’s like night and day. I show

work through a whole bunch of things with ease, without
any training whatsoever from anyone. It was simple enough,
and the program proved to be quite adequate in terms

frustrated with the complications we were having with

was like Spring after a really bad Winter! We had gotten
no cooperation from the people we were dealing with

software the way it is. And that’s the key to the thing
being successful for us: being able to use it! We paid
a whole lot of money to <competitors software product>
for a product we couldn’t use. By contrast, dealing
with Competitive Edge Software has been very positive;
the software is terrific, you’ve been extremely responsive,
and I really don’t know how you could improve your service.
I am the Washington State representative for the Western
Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators,
and I’ve told anyone and everyone who will listen—when
they ask what we use for a reporting system—to go see
you guys. A friend at Albertson College had originally

We are a small agency that was using very antiquated software for our report writing. We found the software to be hard to understand, most definitely not user friendly.
